Yield Data Collection

Data is core to our business and, as such, we are building the world’s fastest-growing yield database for smallholder farmers.

Historically, collecting good yield data has been difficult due to various reasons such as the nature of the harvest of various crops and the labor-intensive methodologies needed for precise data collection. When collected, most yield measurements have relied on farmers’ recollection, transaction data, or other proxies for yield which tend to be unreliable. Similarly, this data is generally not gathered routinely or for a large, representative sample – making it difficult for various stakeholders to confidently determine whether their interventions have been effective for farmers or not.

Pula’s yield data collection leverages the scientific field-based Crop Cut Experiments methodology and robust sampling to get representative data efficiently. Our approach is used for agricultural insurance claims assessment by over 150 clients and partners around the world.
By working with Pula, you will thus get access to accurate farm yield data collected by our digitized field force of young, well-trained, rural enumerators.

The collected yield data can assist your organization in understanding:

  • Overall trends in yields over time for your value chain
  • Regional variations in productivity to inform decision-making
  • Impact of targeted agricultural practices and inputs on yields.
  • Custom insights based on co-developed surveys.
